“Video and image content can be more useful when it comes to influencing search and social results.” – Debra Mastaler, SEO Expert, Trainer & Speaker

When it comes to SEO we all give a collective sigh, right?

It’s a whirlwind of what we should be doing, should stop doing, what’s new, what’s old, what could be detrimental, and on it goes.

Google seems to change its algorithm every couple of months that keeping up becomes a job in itself.

But what hasn’t changed over the last 12 months or so, is content marketing being king.

Content marketing does have the power to improve where your website appears in search results – the more authority your hold, the higher your site ranks.

And how do we achieve that authority?

Yep, you guessed it – through content marketing!

But things haven’t stayed completely the same in this arena. According to SEO experts, 2015 is the year of the video. And in reality, it probably will be for a few years to come.

Because there’s too much information out there.

We’re inundated with content from new websites popping up every minute, all fighting for attention that no-one can be bothered to read! We’ve become a website scanning-culture. If some critical piece of information doesn’t jump off the page and smack us in the face, we shut it down and move on.

And savvy marketers were ready for it.

They switched tactics early, coming up with a new plan to get attention and get their message across quickly.

Enter video.

Or specifically Explainer Videos. These are punchy, fun, engaging ways to stand out among the acres of text-laden websites.

Have you tried it yet?

It’s so much more interesting than text!

Getting your message across via an Explainer Video can simplify your service offering and personalise your business effectively.

What’s more, it can (indirectly) improve where your website ranks in Google – who doesn’t need a little help in that direction!

Since Google owns YouTube, and assuming you’ve uploaded your video to YouTube before adding it to your website (or in addition to adding it to your site), you automatically have another marketing tool working hard for you.

In addition to your website and social media channels.

Well it’s no secret that Google gives weighty prevalence to relevant YouTube videos in their search results.

So if your video SEO includes the search term used e.g. “how a virtual assistant can help your business” it’s likely to appear high in the results.

Possibly above your website, and many of your competitors websites.

This works even better if you have a niche.

Let’s take bookkeeping as an example. Create a video outlining your expertise in this field, optimise it for “how to hire a bookkeeper”, and then upload it to YouTube.

Whenever the phrase “hire a bookkeeper” is searched for, your YouTube video will appear in the search results.

In addition to your website.

Doubling your marketing reach!

But how can this affect your website ranking?

Sticking with the example above, those who bother to view your video via YouTube are probably hot leads. They’re in the market to hire a bookkeeper.

So they’ll watch your video, then click on the link (from your YouTube channel) to go to your website.

The more people clicking through to your site, commenting on the video and linking to it, the more authority Google places on your video, which in turn improves your website ranking.

Will video help attract more clients?

Well it won’t do any harm will it – unless you make a hash of the video!

But seriously, it can attract more clients.

Not only through the additional marketing channel already mentioned, but because it gives potential clients an insight to you – your business and your personality.

That’s the fun part about using video marketing.

You can be yourself. And we all know that people love doing business with people.

Through video, they find out more in 60 seconds than they would by reading your entire website word-for-word … and who does that anymore anyway?

(Of course, the same benefits apply for their business too – so perhaps it’s time to chat to your clients about using video marketing to promote their product or service as well.)

But getting back to you …

As a VA you’re ideally suited to appear in the video yourself – after all, you are selling you. Your services.

And with so many VA’s to choose from, it doesn’t just come down to skills and experience anymore. It comes down to chemistry as well.

So this could be an early deal sealer.

But if you’re a little camera-shy, you could opt for an animation whiteboard style video instead – there are plenty of options out there.

What’s more, you can use this tool for marketing in other channels as well – email marketing, LinkedIn, Facebook advertising, etc. – giving yet more opportunities for attracting new clients.

Video marketing is big.

And it’s getting bigger.

Don’t get left behind.
